Philip Barkhudarov - bass singer, composer, arranger, producer - currently resides in Reykjavík, Iceland and studied voice with Jón Þorsteinsson at the Conservatory of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Originally from Moscow, Russia, he lived in Sheffield, England and grew up in the United States in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Philip holds a bachelor degree in physics and a masters degree in computer science from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
Besides singing as a soloist and with numerous choirs around the world, Philip is the artistic director of Kyrja (Iceland), co-founder and member of Olga Vocal Ensemble (Netherlands), and member of M'ANAM (Ireland) and Choreos (Germany). In 2020, Philip produced Vox Virtual, an online singing festival that featured such groups as The Swingles, Accent, ANÚNA, Ensemble Rustavi, and Cantus. In 2022, he published Existence Shade, an album of his own compositions, in collaboration with Les Itinérantes (France). I've spent my life singing. First, as a three-year-old in a Russian bus, singing tunelessly in order to make the bus move - or so grandma would have had me believe. Then, as a clueless chorister growing up in the mountains of New Mexico, having abandoned the viola for requiring far too much practice! In high school I really fell in love with singing, and there was no turning back. |
